Variation and Cognition in Language

Researcher in charge: Pilar García Mouton

This group brings together different lines of research, it has funded projects, and a remarkable proportion of researchers. It holds demonstrated capability to attract pre- and postdoctoral students. It integrates the 'Phonetics Laboratory'.

The core of its theoretical and applied activities is the study of language and languages  both with respect to the cognitive foundations of the linguistic phenomena and the different processes of synchronic and diachronic variation. Therefore, the group deals with the theoretical principles of the linguistic system at the phonetic and phonological, syntactic, semantic and lexical-syntactic levels, as well as the linguistic variation in its historical, geographical and social manifestations.

Variation is studied in the internal dimension of the languages, and also in a comparative and interlinguistic perspective, through the examination of different languages and dialects.
